This is an exciting time to join SYSTRA Ltd and we have opportunity for an experienced Engineering Manager to join our growing engineering team, in Manchester or Glasgow. Focussing on Light Rail, Metros and other transit solutions to deliver projects across the UK for a diverse portfolio of clients, therefore a degree of travelling will be necessary. The post-holder will lead and direct our team of engineers and be supported by global expertise.

The Engineering Manager will be accountable for the technical assurance of allocated projects ensuring:

  • Technical co-ordination and integration of multi-discipline design inputs through Full project life-cycle through design and implementation to operation
  • Project requirements are fully met
  • Technically sound design solutions are produced, including all associated reporting and cost estimating, to programme and within budget
  • Constructability, value for money, and innovation are considered at all stages
  • Compliance with all relevant technical standards
  • Advice and guidance is provided for staff, and professional development is actively pursued
  • Good relationships are maintained with all external parties to enhance the reputation of the company

THE ROLE

  • Produce and manage the Engineering Management Plan for allocated projects
  • Implement systems and procedures to maintain a cost effective, high quality, safe and environmentally responsible approach to design, construction, commissioning
  • Apply engineering controls and procedures to all projects
  • Maintain a robust technical coordination process and chair design integration reviews
  • Management of Engineering schedules and deliverables
  • Identify and document any derogations / non-compliances
  • Implement effective, value for money and innovative design solutions to meet technical and project requirements
  • Liaise with clients and ensure their requirements are effectively communicated to the team
  • Review technical documents and reports and assist in the preparation of expressions of interest and tenders
  • Ensure compliance with relevant health, safety and environmental legislation, particularly the CDM Regulations
  • Supervise team members including all engineers, senior engineers, senior technicians and assistant and graduate engineers
  • Checks to ensure compliance with the Integrated Management System and assist in its development

YOUR EXPERIENCE SHOULD INCLUDE:

  • Engineering Management of multi-disciplinary Light Rail/ metros projects
  • Design and system Integration including IDC and system modelling.
  • Experienced light rail engineer with appreciation of all associated disciplines. Have ability to explain relationships between disciplines and how they interface.
  • Technical Assurance including requirements capture, verification and validation techniques
  • Development and approvals of innovative engineering solutions
  • Wider experience of conventional rail and other transportation modes.
  • Experience of development, design, construction and operations

YOUR SKILLS SHOULD INCLUDE:

  • Chartered Engineer (Desirable)
  • Written and spoken English
  • The ability to lead and develop engineers.
  • Team management and development
  • Highly competent in the technical integration and management of multidisciplinary Feasibility, Scheme and Detailed Design projects.
  • Computer literate.
  • Business Development and client management
