Procurement Manager in Derby, Derbyshire, United Kingdom
I have an interim opportunity for a Procurement Manager to join a rail manufacturing company. This is initially a 3-6 month appointment with the possibility of becoming permanent.
The Procurement Manager will be responsible for the Buying and Stores teams. This will suit someone with a solutions based attitude, who is assertive enough to question and propose amendments to current systems and processes, if they can see alternatives that could be considered in terms of effectiveness.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain supplier database with a focus on Strategic Suppliers, as well as, additional secondary approved suppliers within the operating system format.
- Responsible for supervising and coordinating activities of the logistic and procurement personnel and processes including technical support, order fulfilment, and customer and supplier relationships.
- Select suppliers based upon their competence, competitive standing, and compatibly with current procedures and negotiate contracts with major suppliers to secure consistent supplies and competitive prices.
- Maintain supplier relationships through effective communications and negotiate cost reductions and continuous process improvements on an ongoing basis.
- Require compliance from suppliers to purchase order terms and conditions, involving all of the performance parameters for which they are contractually responsible.
- Investigate complaints involving such matters as damaged items, overcharges, quality defects, delay in shipments, and makes necessary adjustments.
- Establish and manage the KPIs and budgets related to fulfilments, customer satisfaction (internal and external), performance, delivery, volume, cost savings, etc.
Talent Management
- Provides overall direction, coordination, supervision and evaluation of the procurement team.
- Managing direct reports to ensure implementation and compliance of engineering, quality, health, safety and environmental standards including HR policies and procedures.
Strategic and Functional Processes
- Achieve customer service objectives and requirements by implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards.
- Manage materials and part order process for projects, based on the Bill of Materials, and general stock.
- Establish and manage department procedures for verification and storage of incoming and outgoing materials and parts. .
- Prepare and submit monthly management reporting pack to support the Operations division corporate reporting requirements
- Analyze market and delivery conditions to determine present and future material and part availability against current and pending project, production and operation plans and schedules and prepare market analysis reports.
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts to improve safety and quality and reduce cost and cycle time.
This appointment is based on 40 hours per week with flexibility given regarding start and finish times. We are also open to discussing staff or day rates, with possible travel expenses if you are out-with a reasonable commuting distance.
