Job Summary

To act as Regional Geomatics Manager providing leadership to the Swindon/Stratford office and reporting to the Head of Geomatics. The post holder will provide guidance and leadership to staff within the discipline in the Swindon/Stratford office which is focused on delivery for the S&C Alliance (South).

Internally the Regional Geomatics Manager will provide strong technical support to the region in terms of bid production, mentoring, developing staff competencies and developing relationships between regions including overseas. The Regional Geomatics Manager will actively participate in project delivery and contribute to the regional growth of the discipline.

Engagement with other senior staff necessary to discharge these duties will be as follows:

  • Head of Geomatics: Have a close working relationship to deliver services across the country as needed.
  • Other regional Managers: Work across the country in sharing and using resources efficiently.
  • Operations Manager: Strategy and Growth in relation to discipline strategy and work winning
  • Project and Quality: Delivery: Project Directors, District Leaders, Sub Sector Leaders;
  • Staff Development: Engineering and Excellence Director; Sub Sector Leaders.
  • Client Engagement: Sector (Sub-Sector) Leader, Work Winning Director
  • Resource Management: Sub Sector Leaders, Work Winning Director
  • Cross Business Line: Local or regional management from other Business Lines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project and Quality Delivery/Staff Development
  • Oversee the technical quality of work carried out by the local team and ensure that a consistent and acceptable level of quality is provided by the office.
  • Be actively involved in project delivery and ensure that a high level of sold time is achieved.
  • Ensure that the technical processes and procedures for the delivery of discipline outputs are robust and updated as and when appropriate. Ensure that refined technical processes and procedures are in place. Develop and maintain standardised delivery processes to ensure consistency of outputs in the discipline.
  • Ensure that all staff members in the office are appropriately ranked in terms of skills and technical competence and maintain adequate records to monitor this. Ensure that all relevant licences are kept up to date and that staff are briefed on technical and technology developments in the disciplines. Provide guidance in further development of staff training.
  • Proactively be involved in bids to ensure that the discipline input is properly and adequately represented and that interfaces with other disciplines and stakeholders are adequately identified and managed. Ensure robust technical bid preparation.
  • Work closely with Project managers to ensure that the quality of work carried out locally on projects is to a level expected from our Clients.

Minimum Requirements

Growth and Management:

  • Work with regional commercial team to prepare and publish monthly charts showing resource needs based on secured and potential work.
  • Manage the discipline staff and equipment resources in a pro-active way to ensure that all projects are adequately resourced
  • Be responsible and manage local staffing issues including staff appraisals, training, annual pay and promotions and succession planning
  • Ensure all Geomatics staff understand their responsibilities relating to health & safety and that the policy statement and guiding principles are communicated and understood.
  • Ensure that appropriate levels of mentorship and guidance are being provided towards achieving professional status.
  • Be visible in the office and ensure that an appropriate level of leadership is provided.
  • Be actively involved in the recruitment of staff by the identification of resource gaps and ensure that these gaps are filled with appropriately skilled and experienced staff.
  • Provide management reports as required with a monthly update of progress against plan.

Client Engagement:

  • To be recognised in the region as the professional head of the discipline and participate in conferences, meetings and other industry events. Promote externally the capacity and capability of the discipline team and actively seek project and service opportunities.
  • Maintain close, personal, contact with key clients undertaking a formal programme of local client reviews on a regular basis. Have a detailed understanding of the local geomatics market.
  • Work closely with other local business Lines to promote the whole of AECOM’s expertise in the discipline to clients.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A leader and champion of the discipline with excellent cross sector geomatics industry knowledge (rail knowledge required as a minimum).
  • Ability to implement new processes and procedures.
  • Mobile and visible across all AECOM offices and a good people manager.
  • Clean UK driving License.
  • Ideally a Chartered Surveyor with the RICS or equivalent.
