Position: Site Manager Rail

Location: Kent & Sussex Site Based.

Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 + Brand New Van

A fantastic opportunity for a Site Manager to join a Tier 2 Principle Contractor specialising in minor civils work within rail.

This successful candidate will be an experienced Site Supervisor / Site Manager currently working within the Rail sector with a good knowledge of the standards and permits needed to work in a Rail environment.

The Works will include Platform Reconstruction, Platform Extensions, Lineside Management, Fencing, Cable Route Refurbishment, Repair of, Tunnel Linings, Walkways, Bridge Repairs, Access Steps, Culvert Works, Vegetation Management. Values will range from £200k - £3m.


Duties include:

  • To assist the Project Manager in the management of the site on a day to day basis.
  • Responsible for managing Health, Safety and Environmental matters.
  • Responsible for ensuring a sage working environment for all site staff
  • Preparation and management of safety documentation WPP/TBRA etc...
  • Ability to brief safety information to all site staff
  • Maintain all site records pertaining to Health, Safety and Environmental information
  • Control and issuing of appropriate permits to work
  • Control and monitoring of competencies on site
  • Maintain site diary, issue work records, record extra works inc. site measurements
  • Prepare progress reports
  • Liaison with Project Quantity Surveyor on commercial matters
  • Manage labour, plant and materials on site in conjunction with the Foreman.
  • Prepare timesheets, plant records etc...
  • Must be able to read drawings effectively
  • Have a working knowledge of construction techniques
  • Have a working knowledge of NWR standards and procedures
  • Manage sub-contractors effectively with emphasis on Health & Safety and Quality.
  • Awareness of contract programme requirements
  • Liaison with client, designer, construction consultants etc...
  • Must be computer literate and able to use email, Word, Excel etc

To do this role you must have:

  • Ideally 2 years construction experience (Rail)
  • HNC / HND / Degree in relevant subject
  • CSCS OR SMSTS
  • PTS
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to deal with people at all levels
