Leading programme management consultancy seeks to secure the services of a seasoned planning and project controls professional in the role of Head of Planning & Project Controls. This is a an exciting opportunity to be part of the senior management team within the company where you will provide the leadership, direction and future strategy for all things Planning and Project Controls. This highly rewarding position will ideally be based at their Head Office in Manchester where you will join a team dedicated to providing creative bespoke solutions to their clients on major infrastructure programmes. If you have experience of leading planning and project controls teams, have aspirations to play a leading role in the growth of a company and, have experience working in the rail industry (additional experience in highways or nuclear would be an added advantage) this would be an excellent opportunity for you!
As Head of Planning & Project Controls you will be responsible for setting the strategy for Planning & Controls and deliver a service offering that exceeds our their client's expectations. You will be responsible for ensuring that the people, systems and processes are in place provide an effective planning & controls function that delivers to target, is efficient, focused, customer facing and accountable.
Key Accountabilities
- Establish and drive the strategy for Planning & Controls that delivers a service offering that exceeds both the companies and the client's expectations.
- Create the right culture and set the tone that instils and enhances the company's core values.
- Engender in the team a culture necessary to achieve exceptional results in delivery.
- Take accountable ownership of a team of circa 20 expert Planning and Controls professionals and responsible for shaping the team based on the strategic approach and defining the individual roles and responsibilities. Maintain the strategic approach during the growth of the Planning & Controls function.
- Champion, drive, develop and enhance the Integrated Management System (IMS) through continual improvement.
- Develop and deploy the Planning & Controls management execution plan that incorporates all required processes and procedures.
- Manage and develop our in house talent, ensuring that individual competencies are measured and developed where appropriate.
- Resource Management. Ensure that resource levels and competence for the Planning & Controls team are optimised and appropriate in addition to leading the recruitment process for P&C roles as required.
- Deputise for the Operations Director when required - both internally and client facing.
- Ability to develop and maintain the internal budget and costs for the Planning & Controls function.
Essential skills
- Educated to degree level in a relevant field of study, with preferably a professional or post-degree qualification, with at least ten years post qualification experience.
- Excellent communication with demonstrable delivery of leadership.
- Expert in all aspects of Planning, Programme Controls; Risk, Change, Earned Value Management.
- Demonstrable ability to coach, mentor, influence and challenge management and non-specialists.
- Demonstrable ability to develop and build a successful team.
