Operational Planner in Milton Keynes, South East, United Kingdom

Operational Planner
Network Rail
Milton Keynes
£22,500

Over the next 25 years, passenger numbers are set to double again and therefore one of key challenges is to create the capacity to handle this. In the 5 years up to 2019 (‘Control Period 5’ or CP5) we are investing almost £39bn in maintaining and improving Britain’s railway. This modernisation along with smarter ways of working will deliver more frequent, more reliable, safer services and better stations.

We have set ambitious targets for CP5 to help meet the challenge of increasing passenger demand. Every single pound of profit generated is reinvested back into the railway – for everyone’s benefit.

Ultimately, getting our passengers to where they want to be safely and on-time underpins everything we do and is where our day-to-day focus remains.

The Operational Planner plays an important role in delivery this, working as part of a diverse team to deliver plans that meet industry requirements for performance and capacity utilisation.

As an Operational Planner, a typical day might include the following:
• Analyse requests from operators for train paths, ensuring that:
o They comply with safety rules
o Train running performance is optimised within the timetable
o Decisions are made in accordance with industry standards and regulatory frameworks
o Maintenance and enhancement activities are incorporated within the plan

You will:
• Negotiate with stakeholders
• Justify decisions made around competing capacity requirements
• Demonstrate adherence with Network Rail’s safety vision at all times
• Find innovative solutions to capacity conflicts

You will be provided with:
• Competency and performance related benefits and rewards
• Regular training and development opportunities
• Exciting prospects for career progression

Your Strengths:
• You will be adaptable and able to meet industry deadlines under pressure
• You will have effective communication and influencing skills
