One of my clients based at Gatwick airport currently has an urgent requirement in regards to a Senior planner.
The ideal candidate should have extensive experience working on multi-million pound infrasturcture projects.
The Gatwick Airport (GAL) Senior Planner (SP) supports the EPC Manager (or Area Planner) and the Planning Manager in delivering the strategic aims and objectives of the business through developing and implementing effective planning and assurance processes.
The SP will be the lead Planner in a programme of work and be accountable for all planning (for projects beyond the optioneering stage of development)on a programme of projects (throughout the project lifecycle), ensuring that all performance targets are met or exceeded in a timely and consistent manner, in line with strategies and the GAL Development Department processes. The SP is expected to have a high degree of technical competence, to both deliver high performance both individually and through others. The SP is responsible for all planning on a programme of projects totalling £10-150m in value.
The role embraces all aspects of planning including procurement, design, construction to contract and financial close out whilst ensuring time risk, recources and accurate cost loading and a logical critical path are identified and progressed..
Principal accountabilities
Responsible and accountable for the activities below, and accountable for the work of other Planners within the team.
Provide day to day direction to Planners as appropriate.
Work closely with the Planning Manager and Area Planners to develop templates, work instructions etc. to ensure consistent working by Planning resources.
Accountable for the Developmentand maintenance of accurate schedules throughout the project lifecycle to incorporate all components of internal and external activities and to provide the key milestones to the Planning Manager.Undertaking accurate schedule assessments against contractor progress and programme (interfacing with the Project Cost Engineer and other members of the project team to ensure consistency). Formal programme/cost reviews will also be undertaken periodically as agreed with the Planning Manager to ensure alignment of the cost plan and programme. Any deficiencies will be actioned in a timely manner.
Undertaking accurate monthly cost forecasts (expected to be within a 5% accuracy band month-on-month) using the cost plan, activity schedules and referencing the project programme schedule.
Managethe project risk and opportunity register, including valuing the likely time consequence of each risk/opportunity. The SP will support the Project Manager in identifying and delivering efficiencies in the project by realising opportunities identified in the Risk and Opportunity Register. Specific project efficiency targets are to be agreed between the SP and Planning Manager.
Assessing the time impact of Compensation Events within the relevant contract.
Production of reports and planning information in line with the monthly reporting timetable.
Undertaking periodic site visits as required, to validate information and keep up to date on project progress and issues.
The SP is responsible for feeding schedule information back into the cost estimating database for the Development Department, ensuring that tender timescales and actual out-turn activity durations are correctly identified and classified to continuously improve the quality of planning data in the estimating database.
Qualifications and experience
Significant experience within a planning role within the construction or infrastructure sectors working on projects up to approximate £150m .
University degree qualified in relevant engineering or business subject.
Membership of a professionally recognised cost organisation such as RICS.
Experienced user of Primivera P6
Good understanding of NEC suite of contracts
