Job Summary
Background
The asset management group, who are managed nationally out of our Nottingham Asset Management centre of excellence deliver a range of inspection, survey, investigation and asset management consultancy services to a growing internal and external market. With an increasing global market, a growing portfolio of high profile civil infrastructure projects in the UK and further investment in new technologies, we are recruiting a Multidisciplinary Survey Manager to lead the delivery of multiple types of survey into major projects. The asset management team work in multiple sectors and have a strong capability in transportation, environment and buildings and places, with regional teams in Glasgow, Manchester, Ashford and Swindon.
Role Purpose:
To act as a single point of contact and act as a focal point for projects we lead or support where there is multidisciplinary survey input (e.g. geomatics, ground investigation, geophysics, drone surveys, utility surveys, tag and trace). The post holder will provide guidance and leadership to staff from Asset Management group disciplines and our supply chain into projects and will represent AECOM at a senior level externally in the industry. Initially the role with have no line management responsibility, however the aim will be to develop a virtual team, and ultimately recruit to form a distinct multi-disciplinary survey management discipline. Internally the Multidisciplinary Survey Manager will provide strong technical and delivery oversight to the AM group disciplines feeding into projects, and provide a single perspective on AM Group delivery to our major pursuits. Externally the Multidisciplinary Survey Manager will develop relationships with industry peers and keep abreast of technical and technological developments in the disciplines.
Key Responsibilities:

Project and Quality Delivery

Oversee the technical quality of work carried out by the disciplines into major projects and ensure that a consistent and acceptable level of quality is provided across the disciplines as a whole.

Carry out lessons learned reviews and instil a culture of continuous improvement. Ensure that an appropriate level of auditing of discipline outputs is carried out.

Be actively involved in project delivery and ensure that a high level of sold time is achieved.

Ensure that the technical processes and procedures for the delivery of discipline outputs are robust and updated as and when appropriate. Ensure that refined technical processes and procedures are in place for multi-disciplinary survey projects. Develop and maintain standardised delivery processes to ensure consistency of outputs in the discipline.

Participate in Safety and Quality management meetings as appropriate and contribute to the direction of the discipline within the sector.
Staff Development

Be responsible and manage all staffing issues into projects and feedback to discipline managers regarding staff appraisals, training, annual pay and promotions and succession planning

Ensure all discipline staff understands their responsibilities relating to health & safety, quality and sustainability, and that the policy statement and guiding principles are communicated and understood.
Bidding / Work Winning and Growth

Work with the Director (Asset Management Group), Rail Regional Directors and Asset Management Discipline leads to develop a plan for growth with a three year horizon based on market trends and pipeline opportunities.

Proactively be involved in bids to ensure that the discipline input is properly and adequately represented and that interfaces with other disciplines and stakeholders are adequately identified and managed.

Ensure robust technical bid preparation.

Ensure that work winning effort is focussed on providing work for the AM Group and wider AECOM. Prepare and publish monthly charts showing resource needs based on secured and potential work.

Provide management reports as required with a monthly update of progress against plan.
Resourcing

Co-ordinate with the discipline leaders, and the virtual multi-disciplinary survey operations and project management team, to ensure that all projects are adequately resourced with discipline staff and equipment resources

Arrange and chair bi-monthly meetings involving key virtual discipline staff and communicate matters arising.

Be actively involved in the recruitment of staff by the identification of resource gaps and ensure that these gaps are filled with appropriately skilled and experienced staff.
Client Engagement

To participate in conferences, meetings and other industry events and promote externally the capacity and capability of our multi-disciplinary survey team

Write and deliver papers to promote the level of expertise available within the business.

Maintain close, personal, contact with key clients undertaking a formal programme of local client reviews on a regular basis. Have a detailed understanding of the UK survey and investigation market.

Minimum Requirements

Experience in delivering and managing multidisciplinary surveys

A leader and champion of asset inspection, surveys, and investigation methods with excellent cross sector industry knowledge

Ability to facilitate growth within the discipline and be recognised externally by Clients

Mobile and visible across all AECOM offices and a good people manager

Able to work in matrix organisations and manage multiple interfaces with virtual delivery teams and internal project management teams

Ideally a Chartered Engineer or equivalent
Location: UK wide with preference in either Nottingham, Manchester, Glasgow, Swindon, Ashford or our London offices
