Qualified Train Driver in East Midlands & LNW, United Kingdom
Qualified Train Driver – East Midlands & LNW
JSD Rail is looking for a team orientated, committed and competent qualified train driver to join its seasonal treatment team. The successful applicant will have a full UK road driving license and be competent to drive, or willing to be trained to drive Windhoff Multi-Purpose Vehicles (MPV) owned by Network Rail.
What do we do?
JSD Rail operates weed-spraying trains nationwide on behalf of Network Rail. We are looking for a qualified train driver to help us deliver our treatment work in the East Midlands.
Ideally based within reach of the Derby, Nottingham and Leicester areas, the successful candidate will join our small, dedicated team of MPV maintainer/replenishers and module operators in helping to keep the UK rail network clear of weeds and other lineside vegetation.
Weed-spray circuits operate from April to July, with each MPV going out four times each week on average. Most of the work is at night but there is some daytime work – mostly when the MPVs need to be moved for maintenance. There will be some weekend working, but the trains are mostly stood-down at weekends.
The national weed-spray plan is updated several weeks in advance, allowing our teams to make plans to enjoy non-working time without risk of being called-in at short notice.
Outside of spring & summer, our drivers carry out route learning and refreshing to prepare for the next weed-spray season. We also support the rail industry by providing drivers for autumn railhead treatment trains and other services such as route conductors.

• Annual salary £43,496 plus overtime – current driver average earnings is £50,000
