PURPOSE OF THE JOB
My customer currently has a requirement for a Senior Technology / IT Specialist within their Fleet & Rolling Stock development programme because of an award-winning franchise win.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for a significant programme of IT design and development within the Company and the rail franchise sector under the direction of the Projects & Transition and the Operations Director. Acting as a conduit between the BAU teams, Franchise Delivery, designers and suppliers on the delivery of new rolling stock by the end of 2021.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Deliver the IT/Business Project plans on design and implementation to meet and exceed Franchise commitments. Ensure designs are future proofed and aligned to BAU and BID assumptions.
Define and lead on the train systems requirements for , communications and data transfer on/off train to control centres for the introduction of both Electric (EMU) and Diesel (DMU) including the systems architecture and wayside infrastructure required to support,
Subject Matter Expert (SME) to the project manager for the design and introduction of wifi for both existing and new fleet introduction.
SME to the project manager for identifying, understanding and risk assessing the cyber security implications for projects.
EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Relevant degree in engineering & design or IT Computer Science, Networks Delivery or Application architecture
Understanding of the Bid/Mobilisation and transition of a TOC
Passion for innovative technology and design
Engaging and challenging style to work with key suppliers and culturally aware – Managing partners in Spain, Japan, Korea, Asia etc
Extensive project focused knowledge within the rail & transport industry
Sound understanding and experience in the application and operation of rolling stock fleet
H&S legislation and corporate safety procedures in transport and rail
Technically astute in design and requirements from train to track
Specific experience in at least one of the Rail Sectors
Demonstrable successful delivery of a design, with emphasis on multi-disciplinary and multi interface projects
A can-do attitude and ability to be flexible on travel, hours and location. HQ base in Birmingham with UK and possibly ad-hoc overseas travel
Preference for a member of the Association for Project Management and/or PRINCE 2 qualification. Knowledge of at least one discipline (Electrification, Diesel and Gauge clearance, Arch, C&S, M&E) and an ability to co-ordinate multi-disciplinary teams of designers and site/track side/depots investigation specialists and suppliers. IE network rail, RDG, CAF, Bombardier, Siemens.
IT/Technically astute in application and hardware server configuration, design and support
