
Commercial/ Procurement Assistant

A growing and well-established UK infrastructure business is looking to appoint a Commercial & Procurement Assistant to support its commercial and procurement functions.
The business operates across the built environment and infrastructure sectors, delivering a range of complex projects and services. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with previous experience in rail, construction, civil engineering, facilities management or a similar environment who is looking to develop their commercial and procurement career within a supportive and professional team.
Role & Responsibilities
- Providing administrative and commercial support to the wider commercial and procurement teams
- Assisting with the procurement of subcontractors, suppliers, materials and services
- Supporting the preparation and issuing of purchase orders, subcontract documentation and procurement records
- Maintaining accurate commercial and procurement records and ensuring systems are kept up to date
- Assisting with the management and monitoring of supplier and subcontractor performance
- Supporting the commercial team with cost tracking, reporting and financial administration
- Assisting with the preparation of quotations, tenders and commercial documentation
- Monitoring purchase orders, invoices and supplier payments, identifying and resolving discrepancies where required
- Supporting the onboarding and approval of new suppliers and subcontractors.
- Liaising with suppliers, subcontractors and internal stakeholders to obtain pricing, delivery information and documentation
- Maintaining procurement schedules and ensuring key deadlines are met
- Assisting with contract and commercial administration
- Supporting the team with reporting, document control and general commercial administration
- Identifying opportunities to improve procurement processes, cost efficiencies and internal procedures
- Building strong working relationships with operational, commercial, procurement and project teams
Essential Skills
- Previous experience in a commercial, procurement, purchasing or contract administration role
- Previous experience working within a built environment such as rail, construction, civil engineering, facilities management or infrastructure
- Confident communicator with the ability to build relationships with suppliers, subcontractors and internal stakeholders
- Good numerical and analytical skills
- Strong IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities within a busy environment
- Good understanding of commercial and procurement processes.
- Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a wider team
- A proactive, professional and commercially minded approach
Desired Skills
- Experience working within the rail or wider infrastructure sector
- Experience supporting subcontract procurement and supplier management
- Knowledge of construction, civil engineering or FM procurement processes
- Experience with purchase orders, invoices, quotations and cost tracking
- Understanding of NEC or other construction/infrastructure contracts
- Experience using ERP, procurement or commercial management systems
- Understanding of subcontractor onboarding, compliance and supply chain processes
- Previous exposure to tendering and competitive procurement exercises
- A relevant qualification in Commercial Management, Procurement, Quantity Surveying, Business or a related discipline
- CIPS or other relevant professional qualification would be advantageous
Salary range
- £30,000 - £35,000 per year
