Job Title: Data Analyst – Business Intelligence

Grade: Band 2

Salary: Circa £37,500 (dependent on skill, knowledge and experience)

Contract Type: Permanent / Full Time / Hybrid

Location: Southwark, SE1 8JZ

Hybrid working, within this role enables a balance of 50% of time split between the office and home over a 4-week period. Hybrid working arrangements can evolve subject to business requirements.

Overview of Role

Join TfL’s Asset Strategy team at the heart of London’s long‑term asset renewal and investment planning, where data directly shapes how we keep the network safe and reliable. As a Data Analyst, you’ll help build and evolve our Asset Investment Models within TfL’s Decision Support System, turning complex asset inventory and performance data into clear, evidence‑led investment plans. You’ll develop and maintain impactful reporting and analytics products using tools like Power BI. Key Accountabilities 

  • Support the development of Asset Investment Models using TfL’s Decision Support System.
  • Develop and maintain business reporting using standard tools and coding languages, e.g. Power BI, M, DAX, SQL, to investment decisions and capital programmes and.
  • Support asset data quality improvements through identifying errors, gaps and omissions in various asset datasets.
  • Interpret, manipulate and analyse data from multiple sources and databases to deliver greater insight and more value from our asset inventory data.
  • Provide accurate and timely outputs that can be understood by stakeholders with varying technical knowledge.
  • Provide analysis of multiple data sources using statistical and system tools/techniques.
  • Develop supporting material and provide training and guidance when necessary for tools and reports created by the team.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

Skills & Experience

  • Experience in interpreting, analysing and manipulating complex datasets (including spatial) from multiple sources through applying statistical techniques, quantitative methodologies and system tools.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining management reports using Microsoft tools and coding languages (e.g. Power BI, M, DAX, SQL, MS Excel).
  • Experience in coding in R (Essential).
  • Experience of document management systems (e.g. SharePoint).
  • Experience in the use of GIS software such as QGIS.
  • Experience in working and supporting asset management systems. You will have experience with engaging with a wide range of stakeholders to capture requirements for data (including spatial) analysis and reporting.
  • Good written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present information to non-technical stakeholders.

Knowledge

  • Degree in computer science, data analysis or information management; including Geographical Information Systems (GIS), or a similar area or equivalent business experience.
  • Good understanding of broad range of information management systems; including asset management, GIS and workflow systems.
  • Understanding of principles of asset management.
  • Good understanding of reporting packages, databases and programming languages (e.g. SQL) for the querying, extracting and analysis of asset data.
  • Good understanding of quantitative and statistical approaches for gaining insight into data.
  • Good understanding of industry best practises, approaches and tools for data analytics and insight.
  • Understanding of data visualisation tools (e.g. Power BI) together with dashboard and report design good practice.
