Are you a CAD Technician looking to build a long-term career in the UK rail and infrastructure sector?
Do you enjoy producing high-quality designs and want to develop your skills across low voltage electrical, M&E and building services projects?
Salary: £30,000 to £45,000 DOE
Location: Preston Brook, Sheffield, or York – hybrid working (typically 3 days in office, flexible)
A well-established and growing engineering organisation is looking to appoint a CAD Technician to join its expanding in-house design team. With a strong pipeline of secured work across CP7 frameworks and major infrastructure programmes through to 2027, this is a great opportunity to join a business offering long-term stability and career development.
The team is delivering a wide range of design work across rail and infrastructure projects, including a major multi-year DNO programme focused on earthing and bonding, alongside station works, depot upgrades, feeder renewals and signalling power. Much of this work also overlaps with M&E, MEP and building services, making this a great opportunity for candidates from both rail and non-rail backgrounds.
You’ll be working in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment, contributing to both 2D and 3D design delivery, with exposure to a variety of technically interesting projects.
Essential skills & experience
- Experience producing technical drawings using CAD software (AutoCAD essential)
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to design work
- Background in rail, M&E, MEP or building services (e.g. lighting, LV systems, containment)
- Good communication skills and a team-oriented attitude
- Interest in engineering and developing technical understanding
- Ability to manage workload and work both independently and within a team
Desirable skills
- MicroStation experience (training can be provided)
- Experience producing both 2D and 3D designs
- Exposure to Network Rail standards and procedures
- Design & build or site-based experience
This role is well suited to someone looking to grow within engineering, with a clear development pathway, exposure to major infrastructure projects, and support to build technical knowledge across rail and electrical systems.
