Overview of role
Transport for London (TfL) is looking for an experienced Software Developer to join our Systems Performance & Integration team to help shape the future of TfL’s assets and infrastructure across a diverse portfolio of projects and modes of transportation.
Working alongside other Software Developers on our portfolio of engineering projects, you will develop software solutions to enhance system performance and reduce capital investment and operational costs.
The team’s current main activity is the development and maintenance of simulators to support London Underground operations. The team also maintains specialist computing hardware platforms to support the modelling and simulation activities undertaken by other engineering teams.
As a highly motivated and adaptable engineer, you will also help to create a culture of continuous improvement through the identification of process improvements, best practices, innovation and new opportunities.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Essential:
- Degree qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline
- Extensive experience in the design, test, development, documentation and maintenance of software, and knowledge of industry best practice
- Experience in object-oriented programming, e.g. C++
- Experience in high-level programming languages, e.g. Python
- Experience in systems modelling and simulation
- Ability to build effective working relationships, with people at all levels across the organisation and externally (supply-chain), and to influence at these levels
Desirable:
- Experience of using system performance modelling & simulation tools in the transport industry
- Knowledge and understanding of London Underground signalling systems
- Experience in developing 3D graphics
- Expertise in enterprise data storage and protection (backup/restore) technologies
