Summary
Due to continued growth and project success, a multi-disciplinary railway turnkey business, is looking to hire an experienced Environmental Advisor to support rail infrastructure projects across the UK.
Based from the clients Chesterfield office 1 / 2 days a week with Hybrid working and site travel.
As an Environmental Advisor you will be responsible for leading environmental management, compliance, and sustainability performance across the companies rail & construction projects. Acting as the subject matter expert, this role provides strategic direction, technical guidance, and operational support to ensure all activities comply with UK environmental legislation, client requirements, RISQS standards, and the Integrated Management System (IMS). The role requires a proactive, hands-on leader who can influence project teams, manage environmental risk, and drive continuous improvement while supporting Net Zero and sustainability objectives.
Responsibilities include
- Leading environmental compliance across multiple projects
- Provide expert guidance to project teams and senior management
- Manage environmental risks, audits, and inspections
- Develop and implement EMPs/ESMPs
- Drive sustainability, carbon reduction, and biodiversity initiatives
- Support ISO 14001 and IMS compliance
Essential Requirements
- Degree in Environmental Management, Environmental Science, or similar
- Extensive experience in environmental roles within construction, infrastructure, or rail
- Strong knowledge of UK environmental legislation and compliance
- Experience with environmental audits, inspections, and EMPs
- Working knowledge of ISO 14001 management systems
- Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skill
- Membership of a professional body (e.g. ISEP) or working towards Chartered status
Desirable
- Experience within the rail sector (Network Rail / Tier 1 projects)
- Knowledge of RISQS and rail assurance processes
- PTS or willingness to obtain
- Certified Internal Environmental Auditor (or equivalent)Experience with Net Zero, carbon management, and sustainability reporting
- Knowledge of biodiversity net gain (BNG) and resource management
Salary: Between £50,000 - £60,000 DOE Negotiable dependant on level of experience plus package including car / allowance
