About us:

The Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Team underpins TfL’s £11bn financial operations, £4bn annual procurement, asset management, and people services including payroll. TfL is delivering a major ERP Transformation centred on SAP S/4HANA.

About the role:

The ERP Senior Enterprise Architect is the enterprise‑level authority for this transformation, accountable for shaping and governing the target ERP architecture across SAP and non‑SAP platforms.

The role leads business, application and solution architecture activities, shaping and embedding end‑to‑end ERP processes aligned to the target TfL technology strategy. This includes defining and maintaining target architectures, roadmaps, principles and standards and chairing the ERP Technical Design authority to ensure a cohesive and future‑ready ERP landscape.

Reporting to the Head of Enterprise Architecture, the role holder leads the development, maintenance and governance of ERP architecture outputs, and ensures their consistent adoption and compliance throughout the lifecycle of the ERP Transformation programme.

Key Accountabilities

• Accountable for the enterprise-level design of TfL ERP systems and solutions, working in partnership with the programme and key business stakeholders.

• Acts as a key interface between the SAP portfolio and the business, translating complex process, technology and data approaches and activities to non-technical audiences at all levels from ExCo to front line operations to build understanding of the changes. Presents and positions the broader vision and value of solution portfolios to business. stakeholders. Helps ‘connect the dots’ between business goals and technology.

• Acts as a senior technical advisor to the ERP Portfolio, providing direction and solutions based on wider industry-focus, across the entire SAP and non-SAP ERP landscape to ensure optimal solutions are chosen and implemented.

• Validates the as-is enterprise architecture across the organisation and develops an appropriate business-driven end state vision with a supporting IT-roadmap and design (processes, applications, systems) based on chosen systems.

• Operationalises business ERP/ SAP roadmaps in order to derive the best possible solution for TfL balancing considerations such as cloud-based vs on-premise scenarios.

• Proactively develops positive working relationships with key senior stakeholders to identify solutions for requirements to co-create a path to architecture solutions, ensuring business/user perspective is factored into programme scoping and delivery approach.

• Acts an advocate for and educates stakeholders on strategic innovation areas such as: S/4 HANA. SAP BTP (Business Technology Platform), Datalakes, Data Strategy, Cloud, UX and AI

Key Interfaces

• Head of ERP Change Delivery and wider team

• ERP Steering Group – the group that governs the portfolio as a whole.

• Process sponsors and process owners

• Wider Technology & Data team to drive delivery of SAP systems in alignment with our wider technology portfolios.

• Third party supplier/s supporting the programme with delivery of systems – either through direct work on systems delivery or advice / support.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

Skills

• Excellent influencing skills, acts as our trusted advisor setting the future direction and roadmap and able to demystify complex topics and drive decisions.

• Excellent presentation and communication skills.

• Demonstrates appropriate EA level successful engagements.

• Design Thinking experience in business facing engagements.

Knowledge

• Bachelor equivalent (Essential)

• Expert knowledge/expertise on end-to-end processes/solution architecture (Essential)

• Experience in EA tools e.g., Orbus Infinity, Lean IX (Desirable)

• TOGAF qualified (Desirable)

Experience

• Experience of working on and delivering multiple successful S/4 HANA transformation / implementation programmes in similar sized complex organisations.

• Extensive end user experience or consulting in the SAP eco-system

• Significant solution architect experience in areas appropriate to the job

• Experience of working in an Enterprise Architect role

• Experience of working in a large, complex, unionised organisation
