Job role
The Escalator Tester Adjuster is to provide expert technical knowledge and specialized practical skills (with an emphasis on electrical and controls) to identify, co-ordinate and manage the resolution of defects, provide safety assurance, prevent repeated faults from occurring and assisting the maintenance Area Teams with fault finding, scoping of major repairs and quality assurance of works.
The role is also to develop design solutions and modifications, where necessary, to achieve appropriate improvements in the safety, performance and reliability of escalators in line with the requirements of the legislation and the quality and performance standards.
Key Accountabilities
- Utilise expert knowledge guiding the maintenance teams and contractors, as well as hands on intervention, in the diagnosis and rectification of complex faults, defects and site activities.
- Assess and provide accountable assurance for the safe operation of escalators and their safety critical systems ensuring compliance to standards and regulations and their ability to be safely use by customers and maintenance staff.
- Provide quality Assurance to repair and refurbishment works carried out by Maintenance teams, this will include leading on design changes. Leading an internal or external maintenance team as technical expert to ensure completion is done to the highest standard.
- Lead in the development of engineering specifications, standards and work instructions for Escalators, identifying best practice and improvement opportunities to enhance the performance, and safety of assets and maintenance staff.
- Undertake investigations of incidents, accidents, technical failures and breakdowns, producing detailed reports and recommendations with the aim of promptly returning assets to service and reducing the likelihood of future incidents.
- The post holder will be required to work closely with the Escalator call team to help/guide and mentor the call fitters to overcome electrical issues.
Provide mentoring and site activity training to staff and apprentices. - Produce and provide Technical based reports, to be used by Maintenance, design and procurement teams. Attend follow up meetings acting as the Technical expert as required.
- Shift pattern for this role will be driven by the demands of the section and the working railway. The role will require the Tester Adjusters to work a verity of days night and late, the post holders will be required to work flexibly but within the confines of the working time directive: The post holder may be required to react and change shift at short notice.
- The post holder will be required to work flexibly, either primarily nights with occasional days, or primarily days with occasional nights, dependent on business requirements.
- The post holder must hold a full UK driving license and be willing to drive company vans.

Skills
- Fault finding on electrical and mechanical systems. (Essential)

- Maintain knowledge and technical expertise in relevant field. (Desirable)
- Able to read and interpreted engineering drawings and relate these to site equipment. (Essential)
- Ability to use, maintain computer based analytical system, such as alignment tools and data monitoring systems. (Essential)
Knowledge
- NVQ level 3 or above in Escalator maintenance or equivalent engineering qualification. (Essential)
- Extensive knowledge of the electrical, mechanical and hydraulic systems incorporated within Escalators, their operation, defect modes, fault rectification and safe operation. (Essential)
- Proven Relevant Experience and in depth asset knowledge (Essential)
- HNC/Degree or equivalent in a relevant Engineering discipline (Desirable).
- Comprehensive understanding of BS-EN 115, LUL standards and specifications. (Desirable)
- Computer literate for report writing and operation and analysis of measurement and monitoring systems. (Essential)
- Full UK driving license. (Essential)
- Working knowledge of health and safety legislation. (Desirable)
Experience
- Experience of Escalator maintenance tasks. (Essential)
- Experience of Escalator installation / overhaul process and Stage inspections. (Desirable)
- Experience of fault diagnosis and rectification. (Essential)
