Due to an upcoming change within the estimating team, my client is looking to appoint an experienced Estimating Manager to take overall responsibility for the estimating and tender function across the wider group.

This is a senior position within the business and would suit an experienced Estimating Manager, Head of Estimating or Senior Estimator who is ready to step into a broader leadership role.

You will be responsible for overseeing the estimating function, managing the tender pipeline and leading the preparation of competitive bids across a range of civils and building projects. The business delivers projects involving concrete works, structures, bridges and general building works, so strong experience across both civils and buildings is important.

You will need to be comfortable building estimates from first principles as well as taking a strategic approach to larger and more complex tenders. The successful candidate will ideally have experience managing bids worth in excess of £2m, with exposure to projects and tenders in the £5m-£10m range particularly relevant.

Rail experience is not required for this position, although candidates who have worked within rail alongside wider civils and building projects will still be considered.

As Estimating Manager, your duties will include:
·Taking overall responsibility for the estimating and tender function across the group
·Leading the preparation and submission of tenders across civils and building projects
·Building detailed estimates from first principles
·Leading larger and more complex bids and developing appropriate tender strategies
·Reviewing the short and medium-term tender pipeline and supporting bid/no-bid decisions
·Managing and supporting Estimators to ensure tenders are prepared thoroughly, consistently and in line with company procedures
·Reviewing budgets and forecasts and ensuring tender activity supports wider business objectives
·Identifying risks and opportunities throughout the tender process
·Working closely with Construction, Delivery, Commercial and Design teams throughout the tender process
·Supporting project teams with technical information for tenders and pre-qualification submissions
·Ensuring estimates are appropriately reviewed and signed off prior to submission
·Supporting the Commercial team with information required to agree final terms and contracts
·Maintaining and developing tender information, processes and supporting documentation
·Supporting the development and growth of the estimating team as required

Requirements:
·10-15 years' estimating experience within the construction industry
·Strong experience across both civil engineering and building projects
·Experience estimating concrete works, structures and/or bridges
·Ability to produce detailed estimates from first principles
·Experience managing and overseeing larger tenders, ideally including bids in the £5m-£10m range
·5-10 years' experience managing or leading other members of an estimating team
·Strong commercial understanding and the ability to identify tender risks and opportunities
·Previous contractor experience would be preferred, although strong consultancy or client-side candidates will also be considered
·HNC, degree or equivalent qualification within construction, civil engineering or a related discipline preferred
·Strong IT skills, particularly Excel and Word
·Full UK driving licence
·Rail experience is beneficial but is not essential

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Estimating Manager or Senior Estimator to take ownership of the estimating function across an established contractor, with responsibility for major tenders and the opportunity to have a significant influence on the future direction of the business.
