Are you a Mechanical Building Services Engineer with experience designing HVAC and associated mechanical systems?

Are you looking to apply your building services experience to complex station, depot and infrastructure projects?

Salary: £35,000 to £55,000 DOE

Location: Epsom, Glasgow, Birmingham, Derby or York. Epsom, Glasgow, Birmingham, Derby or York. Hybrid, typically 2 to 3 days per week in the office

I am recruiting for a Mechanical Engineer to join my client’s established M&E design team, supporting a busy portfolio of rail infrastructure projects across stations and depots.

I am specifically looking for someone with a building services design background, with experience designing HVAC, ventilation, heating, cooling and associated mechanical systems.

Previous rail experience would be beneficial but isn't essential. I am equally interested in Mechanical Building Services Engineers from consultancy, commercial buildings or other technically complex environments who are keen to transfer their skills into major infrastructure.

Depot experience would be particularly valuable due to the current project pipeline.

What will you be doing?

  • Delivering mechanical building services designs for stations, depots and other infrastructure projects
  • Designing HVAC, ventilation, heating and cooling systems
  • Undertaking mechanical calculations, equipment sizing and system selection
  • Producing specifications, calculations, drawings and other technical design documentation
  • Reviewing existing mechanical installations and developing upgrade or replacement solutions
  • Supporting surveys and assessments of existing assets
  • Considering constructability, maintainability and integration with existing infrastructure
  • Coordinating mechanical designs with electrical, civil, structural and other disciplines
  • Supporting projects through different stages of the design lifecycle
  • Working closely with clients and wider project teams to develop practical, technically compliant solutions

What am I looking for?

  • Mechanical engineering experience within building services design
  • Practical design experience across HVAC, ventilation, heating and/or cooling systems
  • Experience producing mechanical calculations, specifications and technical documentation
  • A good understanding of building services design principles and relevant standards
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary design environment
  • Rail experience preferred, not essential.
  • Ability to understand existing installations and develop practical engineering solutions
  • Strong technical, analytical and communication skills
  • An interest in progressing professionally and working towards relevant professional registration

Experience within rail stations or depots would be advantageous, but isn't essential where you can demonstrate strong transferable building services design experience.

This is a good opportunity for a Mechanical Building Services Engineer looking to move into rail and infrastructure, or someone already within the sector who wants exposure to a varied pipeline of station and depot projects.
