Production Supervisor - Rail Rolling Stock

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Production Supervisor to join a leading client within the Rail Rolling Stock industry at their depot in Machynlleth, Wales working on a permanent basis.

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and technically strong individual to take on a key leadership role within a safety-critical rail maintenance environment. The successful candidate will lead a team of skilled technicians, ensuring maintenance activities are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards while supporting operational reliability and fleet performance.

This role is ideally suited to someone with strong fault-finding capability, leadership experience, and a passion for continuous improvement within a fast-paced engineering environment.

The Role

As Production Supervisor, you will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision, planning, and coordination of maintenance activities across the depot. You will ensure work is prioritised effectively to meet safety, reliability, and operational targets while maintaining full compliance with railway industry standards and company procedures.

You will provide technical leadership to the team, support fault diagnosis and root cause analysis activities, and drive high standards of workmanship and depot performance.

This is a safety-critical position requiring excellent leadership skills, strong technical knowledge, and the ability to manage priorities in a dynamic operational environment.

Key Responsibilities
Lead, supervise, and coordinate a team of Rail Technicians to ensure safe and efficient delivery of maintenance activities
Prioritise workloads based on safety risk, operational impact, and fleet reliability requirements
Drive achievement of contractual performance, availability, and reliability targets
Participate in operational meetings and produce performance reports and KPIs
Ensure all maintenance activities and records are accurately maintained within GMAO and other company systems
Liaise with Materials Management teams to ensure timely availability of parts and materials
Oversee Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and Warranty Claims processes
Support stock control and material management procedures within depot stores
Monitor attendance, conduct return-to-work interviews, and support disciplinary and investigation processes where required
Conduct competency assessments and support ongoing development of technicians
Promote and lead a positive health & safety culture across the depot
Drive continuous improvement initiatives and support lean working practices including 5S
Ensure all work is completed in line with railway industry, site, and company quality standards

Technical Responsibilities

You will provide technical support and oversight across a wide range of rolling stock systems including:

Traction and braking systems
Passenger Information Systems (PIS), PA, and CCTV
Passenger access doors
Battery systems and charging equipment
Train Control and Management Systems (TCMS)
HVAC systems
Auxiliary electrical systems
Safety systems including ETCS, AWS, TPWS and OTDR
Powerpacks, diesel engines, alternators, and associated equipment
Fire detection and suppression systems
Coupling systems and inter-vehicle connections
CET and toilet systems
High-pressure hydraulic and pneumatic systems
Complex cab control and GPS systems

Additional responsibilities include:

Fault finding using electrical schematics, diagnostic software, and testing equipment
Supporting corrective maintenance and reliability improvement activities
Wiring and integration of electrical components
Supporting modification and campaign work on rolling stock vehicles
Assisting with service recovery and vandalism repair activities where required
Supporting implementation of continuous improvement plans
Working across other depot locations when operationally required

What We're Looking For

Qualifications
Level 3 Engineering qualification or above
Candidates with lower qualifications may also be considered if supported by significant relevant experience

Experience & Skills

Previous experience in a leadership or supervisory role within rail or heavy engineering
Strong fault-finding and root cause analysis capability
Ability to interpret electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics
Experience using diagnostic software and testing equipment
Excellent understanding of maintenance planning and operational priorities
Strong communication and team leadership skills
Full UK Manual Driving Licence
PTS (Sentinel) certification preferred or ability to obtain
Working Pattern

Candidates must be flexible and available to work:

Days and nights
Weekend shifts where required
Occasional work at alternative depot locations
