Are you an experienced engineer looking to play a key role in delivering engineering change and fleet improvement projects within the rail industry?

We are recruiting for a Project Engineer to join a leading organisation in the rail rolling stock sector, based at their modern maintenance facility in Polmadie, Glasgow. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a high-profile passenger fleet, leading engineering modifications, driving reliability improvements, and delivering technical solutions that enhance fleet performance and safety.

This position would suit an engineer with experience in rail, aerospace, automotive, defence or another highly regulated engineering environment who enjoys problem-solving, project delivery and working collaboratively with customers and multidisciplinary engineering teams.

The Role

As Project Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering engineering modification programmes and implementing engineering changes across an operational passenger fleet. Youll investigate technical issues, coordinate root cause investigations where required, develop modification instructions and procedures, and work closely with both engineering teams and the customer to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and on schedule.

This is a varied role combining project engineering, technical investigation and stakeholder management, with a strong focus on improving fleet reliability and performance.

Key Responsibilities
Lead and deliver engineering modification programmes from planning through to completion.
Produce modification procedures, work instructions and supporting technical documentation.
Support the implementation of engineering changes across the fleet.
Investigate technical faults and reliability issues, identifying root causes and developing effective engineering solutions.
Analyse vehicle performance data, defect reports and maintenance information to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
Liaise with engineering teams, suppliers and the customer to coordinate technical solutions and modification activities.
Produce detailed technical reports, engineering documentation and project sign-off paperwork.
Support safety-related investigations and ensure engineering solutions meet all required standards.
Monitor modification progress and provide regular project updates.
Assist with prioritising repairs, campaigns and engineering improvements.
Support warranty investigations and supplier performance where required.
Attend technical, project and customer meetings.
Provide technical guidance and support to operational and maintenance teams.
Utilise specialist diagnostic equipment where necessary to support investigations.
About You

Were looking for an engineer with strong technical and project delivery experience who enjoys taking ownership of engineering solutions from concept through to implementation.

You will ideally have:

HNC, HND or Degree in an Engineering discipline.
Experience delivering engineering projects or modification programmes.
Strong fault-finding, investigation and root cause analysis skills.
Experience producing technical reports, procedures and engineering documentation.
The ability to interpret technical data and identify reliability improvements.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Good IT skills and confidence using engineering or maintenance management software.
A proactive and collaborative approach with excellent problem-solving ability.
