Radio Frequency Engineer - RF

Summary:
We are seeking two competent Radio Frequency (RF) Engineers to join our team working across various London Underground (LU) network sites. The role involves night shifts from Sunday to Thursday, typically between 11pm and 5am, with hours potentially varying depending on location and job requirements. The successful candidates will be responsible for installing, terminating, and testing various RF cables, including 7/8 and ½ RF cables, ensuring reliable wireless communication systems in rail environments such as tunnels, stations, and trackside areas.

Key duties include designing and optimising RF coverage using Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) and leaky feeder systems, conducting RF surveys, testing, and troubleshooting to maintain communication performance, and supporting installation, commissioning, and integration with rail telecoms technologies such as GSM-R and LTE/5G. Engineers must be familiar with schematics and have hands-on experience with coaxial cable termination, specifically SCF12, LCF12, and LCF78 connectors.

Testing experience using Anritsu equipment is essential, with Passive Intermodulation (PIM) testing considered a bonus. Compliance with safety and industry standards is critical, and candidates must hold valid tickets and certifications including a recent DBS check (within 6 months), Facefit ticket and mask, asbestos awareness, manual handling, and a Sentinel card for LU access.

Skills:
• Proficient coax termination experience with SCF12, LCF12, and LCF78 connectors
• Installation and testing of various sized RF cables (7/8 and ½ RF cables) – essential
• Design, testing, and maintenance of wireless communication systems in rail environments
• RF propagation, link budget calculations, and interference mitigation
• Familiarity with RF schematics and documentation
• Testing experience using Anritsu test equipment
• Knowledge of Passive Intermodulation (PIM) testing (advantageous)
• Experience with Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) and leaky feeder systems
• Understanding of rail telecoms systems such as GSM-R and LTE/5G
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively within a team

Software/Tools:
• Anritsu RF test equipment
• RF planning and design tools (e.g., iBwave, Atoll) – desirable
Certifications & Standards:
• DBS check (within last 6 months)
• Facefit ticket and mask
• Asbestos awareness
• Manual handling
• Sentinel card for London Underground access
