Safety Assurance Engineer (ETCS On-board)

Outside IR35

2-3 days per week in Derby

Working as part of a close-knit team, the Safety Assurance Engineer shall be the referent on safety and assurance for the UK specific application of an ETCS On-Board retrofit project. The Safety Assurance Engineer will report to the Safety Assurance Manager.

Key Accountabilities:

  • • Produce and manage safety documentation:
  • o Safety Management Plan
  • o System Definition
  • o Project Hazard Record
  • o GASC
  • o SASC
  • o IHA
  • o FMECA
  • • Support approval process, to obtain APIS for each train class
  • • Work directly with the Safety Assurance Manager, the assessors (AsBo, ISA), the Design & Technical Authority
  • • Support the UK ETCS On-board delivery team through the design, approval, test and commissioning activities for vehicle First in Class project

Milestones:

  • Contributes to the constitution of the Technical File
  • Prior to track testing & commissioning:
  • - reports from bodies (ISA, NTSN, NTRs)
  • - compliance reports from design houses + internal (lab test reports)
  • After commissioning:
  • - track test reports

Specific Skills/Tasks
Essential:

  • • Knowledge and/or experience relating to train carried systems, in particular train control systems & incab signalling systems (ETCS / CBTC)
  • • Previous experience in interacting with assurance bodies (AsBo, ISA)
  • • Previous experience in safety assurance and certification
  • • Demonstrates customer focus in all work carried out.
  • • Able to understand and take account of the ‘big picture’ presented by the politics and sensitivities that surround the rail industry
  • • Experience of working to industry quality and safety standards
  • • Strong and effective communicator at all levels within the Business and in front of new and existing customers
  • • Highly motivated, dependable and self-reliant.
  • • Previous experience in system safety with knowledge of CSM-RA and CENELEC

Desirable:

  • • Specific knowledge of railway systems and technologies
  • • Previous experience in APIS and/RIS-2700-RST processes
  • • Proven track record in working in major Sub-contract environments
