Network Rail High Speed Ltd. (NRHS) is responsible for operating and maintaining the UK’s only international high-speed railway (HS1) owned by London St. Pancras Highspeed.

The 109km London St. Pancras Highspeed infrastructure consists of a diverse range of railway assets such as the track, signalling, overhead line, lineside buildings, depots, viaducts and long tunnels. NRHS is also responsible for operating and maintaining three international stations; St Pancras, Stratford and Ebbsfleet International.

As a wholly owned subsidiary of Network Rail Infrastructure Ltd, NRHS is privately financed under an agreement with our client London St. Pancras Highspeed, undertaking a diverse range of activities from railway infrastructure maintenance and operations - through to station facilities management and retail on behalf of our client.

Brief Description

The role

We have an exciting opportunity within Network Rail High Speed for a Senior Asset Engineer (Building & Civils).

You will provide a comprehensive building & civils asset management and engineering support service to Network Rail High Speed. You will also lead the determination and development of allocated engineering requirements to support renewal, refurbishment and enhancement investment interventions.


Key accountabilities include:

  • Contribute to the development of route strategies and the prioritised workbank including the development and maintenance of route asset management plans. Manage the inclusion of allocated items into appropriate programmes and monitor through to completion, including approval of programme changes. Determine and advise on the implications if work is not undertaken in the recommended time-frame including impact on appropriate asset measures and outputs.
  • Lead the development and implementation of the building & civils renewal, refurbishment and enhancement work bank including the specification and acceptance of the renewal requirements criteria for building & civils engineering works, design approval and any specific requirements for acceptance of the equipment into maintenance. Carry out asset condition inspections that will inform the building & civils asset condition database and the renewals work bank
  • Following handover to delivery, support the development and implementation of projects to confirm the renewals requirements are correctly interpreted, that any changes in scope are agreed, the agreed deliverables in the asset management plan are delivered and that the scheme delivers the project remit.
  • Lead the provision of building & civils engineering input to enhancement projects such that they are specified and accepted in accordance with company asset policies and standards.
  • Represent the Head of High Speed Engineering building & civils including sitting on relevant System Review Panels and delivering analysis of engineering proposals as required.
  • Audit that accurate and comprehensive records relating to the existence, configuration and modification history of allocated building & civils engineering assets are maintained and that they accurately reflect their current ‘as built‘ status.
  • Lead investigations of incidents as required.
  • Provide a comprehensive systems engineering support service across the building & civils asset base throughout the route and across delivery units as and when required. Monitor and strive to improve the technical competence of engineers associated with E&P systems engineering in the delivery units.
  • Provide building & civils systems engineering input to the determination of appropriate engineering maintenance regimes and activity volumes for building & civils assets in accordance with company policies, standards and specifications. Providing necessary assistance to determine compliance with suitability and robustness of maintenance regimes
  • Monitor the reliability and performance of building & civils systems related assets across the route and instigate, lead and participate in the implementation of corrective actions to improve as required.
  • Provide technical briefings associated with building & civils systems engineering to engineers in delivery units in order that the purpose, as well as the content of standards, specification, etc. is understood.
  • Review and make recommendations on derogation and non-compliance applications to building & civils systems engineering related standards.

About the role (External)

The person

Essential

  • Chartered Engineer, or able to demonstrate an equivalent level of competence
  • Degree in a relevant subject or equivalent
  • Membership of relevant professional institution
  • Substantial building & civils engineering experience, and knowledge of maintenance of building & civils assets
  • Holds relevant technical qualifications, or capable of achieving within reasonable timescales
  • An understanding of policy and technical, safety and performance standards relating to building & civils.

Desirable

  • An understanding of safety management systems and risk assessment techniques
  • Knowledge of investment processes and procedures, including relevant computer systems
  • Experience in the integration of complex engineering systems
  • Knowledge of project management techniques

The role is based at One Stratford Place, London, however frequent travel to our other office and site locations along the High Speed line is expected.

We follow a structured pay framework, any salary offered will be within the following pay range:

£55,596 - £65,966 (plus inner London allowance of £3,270).
