Our client is an established engineering consultancy with a strong reputation across the rail infrastructure sector.

With continued growth and an increasing portfolio of technically challenging rail projects, they are looking to strengthen their design team with an experienced Senior CAD Technician.

The successful candidate will join a technically focused team delivering a wide range of civil and structural engineering access for all (AFA) projects across the UK rail infrastructure sector.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Producing detailed 2D and 3D CAD drawings and design documentation for rail civil and structural projects
  • Working closely with Senior Engineers, Technical Directors and Design Managers to deliver technically accurate design packages
  • Producing and developing drawings using AutoCAD, MicroStation and Revit
  • Supporting the design of rail infrastructure projects including station enhancements, platform works, footbridges, access for all schemes and other civil and structural works
  • Ensuring drawings and documentation are produced in accordance with relevant project requirements, industry standards and Network Rail processes
  • Reviewing and checking drawings to ensure technical accuracy, consistency and quality
  • Working collaboratively with engineers and other design disciplines to resolve technical issues and develop practical solutions
  • Interpreting engineering information, specifications and design requirements and translating these into accurate drawings
  • Supporting the preparation and checking of design packages for Network Rail projects
  • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders where required
  • Supporting less experienced technicians and contributing to the development of technical capability within the wider design team
  • Maintaining high standards of technical quality across all deliverables

Essential Skills

  • Strong previous experience as a CAD Technician / Senior CAD Technician within rail infrastructure
  • Proven experience working on rail civil and/or structural engineering projects
  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD, Microstation and Revit
  • Previous experience producing detailed engineering drawings and design packages within the rail sector
  • Experience working on Network Rail projects and/or rail infrastructure frameworks
  • Good understanding of civil and structural engineering principles and how they translate into technical drawings
  • Ability to interpret engineering designs, specifications and technical information
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to producing technically accurate work
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with engineers, designers and project teams
  • A proactive and hands-on approach to technical delivery

Desired Skills

  • Experience working across a variety of rail infrastructure projects, including station enhancements, platforms, footbridges, Access for All schemes and other civils/structural works
  • Experience working to Network Rail standards, processes and design requirements
  • Experience of working within multidisciplinary engineering design teams
  • Experience supporting or coordinating junior CAD Technicians
  • Experience with additional civil/structural design software
  • Knowledge of structural steelwork and/or reinforced concrete detailing
  • Previous experience working within consultancy environments
  • An understanding of the wider interfaces between civil, structural, permanent way, signalling, electrical and other rail disciplines

Salary range

  • From £400 per day
