About the role:
Our client is an established Tier 1 contractor, with an established history of delivery projects and frameworks for Network Rail. We are looking for an experienced Estimator/Senior Estimator to work independently within an existing small team of 6/7 people.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce and manage analytical lump sum cost estimates, target costs, and high-level cost estimates that accurately reflect the requirements set out within the tender documentation and/or framework requirements.
- Responsible for producing order of magnitude budgets as part of the pricing process, developing cost plans, and creating design to cost budgets.
- Prepare and deliver accurate and timely cost estimates, ensuring each assigned bid has a robust commercial submission based on the contractual terms, site conditions, project constraints and customer requirements.
- Prepare estimate data, tender summaries, project preliminaries and costed risk registers, using estimating software, sound financial judgment, and a comprehensive understanding of risks and opportunities.
- Analyse and determine method-related costs and temporary works in consultation with the Project Manager and other teams.
- Contribute to written methodologies, proposals, and programme commentaries.
- Compile project preliminaries and contribute to work plans and programmes.
- Work with the Managing Estimator and/or Commercial Manager to prepare a profit plan that demonstrates the most likely, best- and worst-case GSM return predictions.
- Present tender commercial strategy proposals at adjudication meetings, explaining the commercial, programme, technical and risk management rationale.
- Highlight key assumptions and clarifications at adjudication and tender submission
- Hand over successful bids to the project team.
- Develop and maintain key customer relationships, understanding customers and professional advisors’ operations
Essential skills and qualifications
- Proven experience in estimating rates from first principles for large complex multi disciplined UK Rail infrastructure projects.
- Familiar with Method of Measurement and preparing Bills of Quantities.
- Sound knowledge of rail construction techniques, technologies, and methods and their impact on outputs and costs. Ideally have knowledge of HV, Electrification, OLE, E&P and associated civils.
- Complete understanding of rail infrastructure engineering resources, their costs and outputs and how these translate to the overall project cost.
- Understanding of the significance of project constraints on the cost of delivery.
- Detailed knowledge of risk management procedures and their impact on cost estimates.
- Able to prepare detailed cost estimates and complete work take-offs/activity schedules.
- Competent use of estimating software and good IT skills.
- Degree HNC/HND (or equivalent qualification/relevant experience).
Salary range
- £75,000 - £85,000 per year
