Salary: Up to £80,000, dependent on experience
Employment type: Permanent

The opportunity

Advance TRS is working with a leading international construction and asset management consultancy to recruit a Senior Project Manager, with a particular focus on aviation infrastructure and project delivery at Gatwick Airport.

Our client supports major infrastructure programmes across the UK and is looking to strengthen its team with an experienced professional who can lead complex projects within a live operational environment.

This is an opportunity to support the development of a major international airport, working closely with clients, design teams, contractors and operational stakeholders to deliver projects while maintaining safe and efficient airport operations.

The role

As Senior Project Manager, you will lead client-facing project management commissions, taking responsibility for delivery through design, procurement and construction.

With a focus on Gatwick Airport assignments, you will manage the interfaces between construction activities and airport operations, ensuring that project plans reflect access restrictions, operational requirements and stakeholder priorities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading aviation and infrastructure projects through design, procurement, construction and handover.
  • Managing delivery against agreed scope, programme, budget and quality requirements.
  • Coordinating multidisciplinary teams, including design, engineering, commercial and programme controls specialists.
  • Working with airport stakeholders to understand requirements and develop practical delivery strategies.
  • Planning works around operational constraints, access arrangements, construction phasing and interfaces with existing assets.
  • Managing contractor performance and coordinating dependencies between project teams and operational stakeholders.
  • Providing oversight of project risks, change control and commercial matters.
  • Managing delivery under NEC contracts and other relevant forms of contract.
  • Leading project meetings, reporting progress and supporting governance and investment decisions.
  • Supporting a coordinated handover into operation.
  • Mentoring junior colleagues and contributing to bids and further business opportunities.

About you

Our client is looking for an experienced Senior Project Manager with a strong infrastructure or complex construction background and the ability to deliver projects in operationally sensitive environments.

Aviation experience is particularly desirable, especially experience working at Gatwick or another operational UK airport. Candidates with relevant experience in other live transport or infrastructure environments are also encouraged to apply.

You will bring:

  • A proven track record of leading complex projects within a consultancy or client-side delivery environment.
  • Experience managing projects through design, procurement, construction and handover.
  • An understanding of the challenges associated with construction in live operational environments, including phasing, access and stakeholder interfaces.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and managing contractor performance.
  • Strong client relationship and stakeholder management skills.
  • Working knowledge of NEC contracts and effective contract administration.
  • Strong commercial awareness and experience managing programme, risk and change.
  • Membership of a relevant professional institution, such as APM, RICS or ICE, or evidence of working towards a recognised professional qualification.
  • Experience mentoring colleagues and supporting bids for new work.
  • The ability to meet relevant security clearance and airport access requirements.

What’s on offer?

  • Salary of up to £80,000, dependent on experience.
  • The opportunity to support aviation projects at Gatwick Airport.
  • A structured route for further career progression.
  • Support with professional development and qualifications.
  • Exposure to a wider portfolio of major infrastructure programmes.
  • Opportunities to support international projects, with potential for overseas moves and secondments.
