The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Planner to join a leading global engineering and project management consultancy, supporting the delivery of some of the UK's most complex infrastructure programmes.

Working within a high-performing Project Controls team, you will be responsible for developing, integrating and maintaining complex project schedules across major capital projects. You'll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to provide robust planning support, enabling informed decision-making and successful project delivery.

This role offers the opportunity to work across nationally significant programmes within the infrastructure, energy and defence sectors.

Candidates who are flexible to travel and stay away during the working week, particularly in London and Birmingham, will be highly desirable, although this is not essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and update fully integrated project schedules using Primavera P6.
  • Lead schedule integration activities across multiple workstreams, contractors and delivery partners.
  • Produce baseline programmes and manage revisions throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Monitor progress against programme, identify critical path activities and highlight delivery risks and opportunities.
  • Undertake programme analysis, forecasting and performance reporting.
  • Apply Earned Value Management (EVM) principles to monitor project performance and support accurate reporting.
  • Work collaboratively with Project Managers, Cost Engineers, Risk Managers and wider Project Controls teams to ensure integrated planning and reporting.
  • Support change management by assessing programme impacts and maintaining schedule integrity.
  • Participate in planning workshops, progress reviews and governance meetings.
  • Produce clear programme reports and planning outputs for senior stakeholders.
  • Ensure planning activities align with project governance and recognised Project Controls best practice.

Essential Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Senior Planner or project planner on large, complex capital projects.
  • Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6.
  • Demonstrable experience in schedule integration across multidisciplinary programmes.
  • Strong understanding and practical application of Earned Value Management (EVM).
  • Good working knowledge of NEC contracts and their application within project delivery.
  • Previous experience delivering projects within one or more of the following sectors:
  • Infrastructure
  • Energy
  • Defence
  • Excellent analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively within integrated project teams in fast-paced environments.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working within a Project Controls function.
  • Knowledge of programme assurance and schedule risk analysis.
  • Experience supporting large-scale government or nationally significant programmes.
  • Familiarity with project reporting tools such as Power BI or Microsoft Project.
  • Professional membership with an industry body (APM, ACostE or similar).

What's on Offer

  • Work on some of the UK's largest and most challenging infrastructure programmes.
  • Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.
  • Hybrid and flexible working arrangements.
  • Genuine opportunities for career progression and professional development.
  • Access to industry-leading Project Controls methodologies and major national projects.
  • Supportive, collaborative and inclusive working environment.

Location & Travel

The role offers flexible and hybrid working; however, candidates should be willing to travel to project locations across the UK as required. Flexibility to stay away from home during the working week, particularly for projects based in London and Birmingham, is highly desirable, although not essential.

Apply

If you have strong Primavera P6 planning experience, a background in integrated project controls, and have delivered major projects within infrastructure, energy or defence, we'd be keen to hear from you. This is an excellent opportunity to join a market-leading consultancy delivering some of the UK's most high-profile programmes.
