Morson Vital are proud to be recruiting on behalf of a global leader in rail infrastructure for a highly skilled Senior RAMSS Engineer to join their team.

In this pivotal position, you will be responsible for leading the engineering safety assurance and RAM (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability) activities across a diverse portfolio of new and existing UK rail projects.

You will act as the engineering safety lead, ensuring that products, systems, and applications are not only innovative but demonstrably safe and reliable throughout their entire lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safety & RAM Strategy: Develop and implement effective strategies for system safety and RAM, ensuring compliance with project and statutory requirements.
  • Project Management: Manage the day-to-day engineering safety aspects of multiple mainline and metro projects.
  • Hazard Management: Lead hazard identification workshops (HAZID), manage the Hazard Record, and conduct detailed system hazard analysis.
  • RAM Engineering: Perform RAM requirements capture, analysis, modelling, and prediction to influence design decisions. Produce RAM demonstration reports to prove system reliability.
  • Safety Assurance: Gather and evaluate safety assurance evidence to monitor system design and implementation.
  • Safety Cases: Construct robust safety arguments and compile Application Safety Cases (structured to CENELEC 50129) to secure approval from railway authorities.
  • Stakeholder Management: Liaise with key internal and external stakeholders, including clients, partners, and approval bodies.
  • Business Development: Support the Head of Safety Assurance in developing the department’s functional roadmap and delivering CSM (Common Safety Method) training to the wider business.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will have a strong engineering background and specific experience within the UK rail industry.

  • Qualifications: Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Electrical, Electronic, Computer Science, or a related engineering discipline.
  • UK Rail Experience: Demonstrable experience in engineering safety and RAM management on turnkey mainline or mass transit railway projects in the UK.
  • Standards Knowledge: Deep understanding and practical application of CENELEC standards (50126, 50128, 50129) and IEC 61508.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Proven ability in RAM processes (planning, analysis, FRACAS, demonstration reports).
    • Proven ability in Safety processes (safety planning, hazard analysis, safety requirements capture).
    • Experience in producing Hazard Identification reports, System Hazard Records, and Application Safety Cases (to 50129).
    • An appreciation of signalling principles testing and verification & validation (V&V) techniques.
