Brief Description

As Systems Support Manager, you will play a key role in leading and shaping system and database management across the Sussex Route, with this post being responsible for Brighton Delivery Unit. Reporting to the Area Services Manager, you will provide leadership and guidance on asset data management, ensuring trusted, high‑quality data that underpins effective decision‑making.

About the role (External)

Role Overview

Take the lead in driving effective system and database management within Brighton Delivery Unit. You will provide expert guidance and support on the use of systems and asset data, ensuring information is accurate, current and trusted, and that systems are managed to the highest standards.

What You’ll Do

  1. Take ownership of the upgrade, maintenance, optimisation and day‑to‑day use of all systems and databases across the delivery unit, ensuring they remain robust, reliable and fit for purpose.
  2. Provide clear direction, hands‑on support and briefings to colleagues on the effective use of systems and data, building confidence and capability across the unit.
  3. Coordinate and collate information from delivery teams and third‑party providers, ensuring systems and databases are always populated with accurate, up‑to‑date information.
  4. Champion data quality and governance, ensuring all systems meet corporate standards and compliance requirements.
  5. Lead the integrated risk management process, maintaining and updating the Active Risk Manager database to support informed decision‑making.
  6. Proactively identify, investigate and resolve system and data issues that impact operational performance.
  7. Monitor, audit and report on data accuracy, timeliness and integrity, ensuring information can be trusted and relied upon.
  8. Provide high‑quality information and insight to support the delivery of business plans, improvement initiatives and project work.
  9. Produce analysis and management reports to support maintenance delivery, making clear, evidence‑based recommendations where management action is required.
  10. Maintain accurate and timely updates to all relevant systems, databases and records, including the Hazard Directory.

We're looking for someone who can demonstrate the following essential & desirable criteria:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work confidently with a range of stakeholders.
  • Good organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple requests and competing priorities.
  • Sound geographical knowledge
  • An understanding of the operational railway environment.

Desirable Criteria

  • Knowledge of maintenance delivery processes and techniques, with an appreciation of how systems and data support safe, efficient operations.
  • Knowledge of systems like MyWork, MyIM, Ellipse and Business Objects.
  • Experience or knowledge of coaching techniques, with the ability to support, guide and develop others in the effective use of systems and information.
