Vehicle Builder (trains)
Location: Southeast London (with good transport links)
Contract Type: Long term contract
Rate: £34.28 per hour umbrella, (£39.98 overtime rate umbrella) PAYE is also available
Shift Pattern: Night shifts only (7pm – 7am), 48 hours per week, working Sat night to Tuesday, the following week you would be working Monday night to Thursday night, working 1-2 weekends per month
Overtime: Available
Pay Frequency: Weekly

Summary
We are seeking a skilled Vehicle Builder to join a dynamic team focused on the stripping out, refurbishment, and renovation of trains and rolling stock. The role involves using various metalwork techniques to remove dents, repair rusted sections, and fix panels. You will conduct bodywork inspections, corrosion repairs including cutting out rusted floors and side panels, and install new floors, lino, grab poles, ceilings, partitions, and seating. The role also includes inspection, removal, and repair of internal and external panelling, as well as refurbishment of train components. Use of hand, power, and air tools is essential.
The ideal candidate will have mechanical experience working on vehicles, boats, coaches, or trains and come from an engineering background. This is a physically demanding role requiring attention to detail, quality workmanship, and adherence to health and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
• Strip out and refurbish train and rolling stock interiors and exteriors
• Repair dents, rust, and damaged panels using metalwork techniques
• Conduct bodywork inspections and corrosion repairs, including cutting out rusted sections
• Install new flooring, linoleum, grab poles, ceilings, partitions, and seating
• Inspect, remove, and repair internal and external panelling
• Refurbish train components as required
• Operate hand, power, and air tools safely and effectively
• Work night shifts and occasional weekends as required
Required Skills
• Mechanical experience either on vehicles, boats, coaches, or trains (essential)
• Strong metalwork and bodywork repair skills
• Ability to perform corrosion repairs and panel replacement
• Experience with installation of interior fittings and components
• Proficient use of hand, power, and air tools
• Ability to work night shifts and weekends
• Good attention to detail and quality workmanship
• Strong health and safety awareness
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Good communication skills
• Available to work night shifts.
Certifications & Standards
• Ideally must hold City & Guilds Automotive Level 1-2 OR BTEC Mechanical Engineering.
