Salary: Circa £43,000 (dependent on skill, knowledge and experience) + TfL Benefits

Hybrid working, within this role enables a balance of 50% of time split between the office and home over a 4-week period. Hybrid working arrangements can evolve subject to business requirements.

Overview of Role
Transport for London (TfL) Engineers are always looking forward. The area of deployment for initial assignment will be within the London Underground Engineering Rolling Stock Commercial Support team. The team is accountable for providing engineering insight and technical support to the Procurement and Commercial team that is responsible for the procurement of parts, services and materials for use on LU (and sometimes other) Rolling Stock. The main objective is to ensure that the materials and services provided are appropriate for the safe, reliable, and cost-efficient operation of our services. However, future assignments could potentially include, but are not limited to, technical support for the maintenance and renewals of our LU Engineering Vehicles fleet, LU rolling stock Maintenance Assurance and depot rolling stock support engineering (LU or London Tram fleets).
For this initial assignment day-to-day focus will be supporting the delivery of all activities within the Rolling Stock Commercial Support lifecycle, which includes: providing Technical Requirements Specifications (TRSs) and Technical Product Specifications (TPSs) to enable competitive procurement tenders, early market engagement presentations and assessments, non-competitive transaction assessments, and providing domain expertise and technical guidance to the Procurement Team to support their other procurement activities.
You will have a grounding in the fundamentals of engineering and its practical application to industry. Don’t discount yourself if you’ve not had rolling stock engineering experience - the fundamental skills, knowledge and experience can be transferred from one industry to another, but Rolling Stock experience is desirable, as is exposure to procurement & commercial processes and technical requirements language.
Essential Skills, Knowledge and Experience
- Graduate in a relevant engineering degree (mechanical, electrical or similar) plus a period of initial professional development OR
- Successful completion of a relevant apprenticeship and/or HND, with a number of years of subsequent experience and are now looking for the next challenge in your career
- The ability to analyse data and produce well written and presented reports
- The ability to author technical documentation
- Building relationships with and influencing a wide range of stakeholders within and outside of the organisation
