Company Information

My client is a UK-based engineering SME delivering professional services across the transport and natural resources sectors: Supporting major infrastructure programmes in the UK and internationally. My client offers the opportunity to work closely with experienced engineers, contribute directly to live projects, and gain exposure to real delivery challenges from an early stage in your career.

My client is seeking a Systems Engineer with experience in requirements management and systems engineering to support the delivery of complex infrastructure programmes.

This role is ideally suited to someone with 5–10 years’ experience who is comfortable operating within client delivery teams, managing technical interfaces, and supporting the development and maintenance of structured, traceable engineering requirements across the project lifecycle. Whilst rail experience is highly desirable, we are also interested in candidates from other infrastructure or complex engineering sectors who can demonstrate strong systems thinking, technical coordination, and requirements management capability.

The role offers the opportunity to work across major infrastructure programmes, supporting clients through design, integration, assurance, and delivery activities.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Applying systems engineering principles across the project lifecycle, from early definition through to delivery and acceptance. & Developing, managing, and maintaining structured and traceable requirements at system and subsystem level.
  • Supporting change management activities, including impact assessment and traceability management. & Supporting verification and validation (V&V) planning and evidence management activities
  • Reviewing technical deliverables, engineering documentation, and compliance evidence. & Working directly within client delivery teams and aligning with client processes and governance arrangements.
  • Supporting technical workshops, coordination activities, and stakeholder engagement across multidisciplinary teams. & Contributing to systems integration, interface management, and assurance activities as required.
  • Working alongside the President Elect of IfSE and managing your own workload effectively within a hybrid consultancy environment.
  • This is a great opportunity to be involved in some of the UK’s well known infrastructure projects

Essential Skills

  • Degree-qualified in Engineering or a related technical discipline and approximately 5–10 years’ experience within engineering, infrastructure, or complex project environments.
  • Experience applying systems engineering and requirements management principles within project delivery and strong understanding of requirements traceability, change management, and verification activities.
  • Experience working with structured technical information, engineering documentation, and data. & Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a pragmatic and delivery-focused approach
  • Comfortable working directly with clients and engaging with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. & Able to manage competing priorities and work effectively within multidisciplinary delivery teams.

Desired Skills

  • Experience within rail, transport, or major infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with requirements management tools such as IBM DOORS or DOORS Next
  • Experience supporting assurance, systems integration, or interface management activities
  • Consultancy experience or experience working within client-facing delivery environments

Salary range

  • £40,000 - £55,000 per year
