 An experienced Contractor's Engineering Manager (CEM) is required to take over an existing role due to retirement. The role supports a rail-based programme currently at GRIP 6, entering SIT/SAT testing, and centres on an Online Key Management System (OKMS). 
 
 The OKMS is a software-based, cyber-secure telecoms system used by train drivers to log into operational systems. While the solution has strong software and cyber-security elements, this is not a pure software role. A telecoms engineering background is essential. Civils or signalling-only backgrounds are unlikely to be suitable. 
 
 The OKMS scope represents approximately 40-50% of the workload; however, candidates with a strong telecoms background will be able to support the role full time. 
 
 Key Responsibilities

 Act as Contractor's Engineering Manager, coordinating all engineering activities in line with the project programme and GRIP lifecycle

The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Civils CRE to support the delivery of rail projects for a leading main contractor. You will oversee civil engineering works on rail projects, ensuring compliance with design standards and buildability requirements.
The Role
Our client is a well-established civil engineering and construction contractor with a strong pipeline of rail projects. As Civils CRE, you will act as the key liaison between the design consultancy, client, and contractor.
Responsibilities include:
<ul>
<li>Reviewing consultant designs for compliance and buildability</li>
<li>Authorising design sign-offs</li>
<li>Managing design changes and site alterations</li>
<li>Ensuring works meet specification and safety standards</li>
</ul>
Required Experience
<ul>
<li>Authorised Civils CRE status (essential)</li>
<li>Degree/HND in Civil Engineering</li>
<li>Substantial rail civil engineering experience</li>
<li>PTS (ideally)</li>
</ul>

Are you a Cost Engineer with experience working for main contractors on construction projects? Do you have Cost Control experience in labour, plant, or materials?Salary: £30,000 – £34,000 per annum Location: Wednesbury, on site 5 days per weekThis is an excellent opportunity to join a leading rail contractor within their Urban/light rail division, supporting a major depot operation. You’ll take ownership of cost control activities, invoice processing, and financial administration across a high-volume, fast-paced delivery environment. Working closely with commercial, engineering and finance teams, you’ll ensure that plant, labour, material and subcontractor costs are accurately recorded, challenged where required, and aligned to project budgets. The role offers strong exposure to major civils and rail infrastructure, with genuine opportunities to build deeper commercial expertise in a supportive and collaborative team.Essential Requirements:<ul>
<li>Experience in a cost engineering or cost control role within construction, rail, civils or engineering environments, or substantial experience as a Cost Clerk handling cost control and invoicing tasks</li><li>Strong understanding of construction project cost elements including plant, labour, materials, depot operations and subcontract packages</li><li>Demonstrable experience processing invoices, checking alignment with purchase orders and ensuring accurate cost allocation</li><li>Confidence engaging with suppliers to query costs, challenge discrepancies and ensure accurate charging</li><li>Strong numerical and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail</li><li>Degree-qualified in a relevant discipline (such as Quantity Surveying, Engineering or Construction Management) is preferred</li><li>Familiarity with cost control systems such as Copernic, JADE, LISA or similar</li><li>Membership of ACostE or a similar professional body is advantageous</li></ul>
Nice to Have:<ul>
<li>Background in civils disciplines such as drainage, piling or concrete works</li><li>Experience working at scale with high-volume invoicing or large monthly cost cycles</li><li>Prior work in depot or maintenance environments</li><li>Ability to support elements of change control and cost impact analysis</li></ul>
