ECR Retail Systems launches the Canon KT-1 in the UK, bringing a Chip & PIN enabled Mobile POS, with on board printer and GPRS/WIFI for portable, queue-busting, at-home shopping or outside vending…Following 25 years of continuous leadership in the Japanese mobile computing market, Canon have now expanded boundaries by introducing the new range of reliable hand-held terminals into Europe.
Until now Canon have only supplied the KT-1 to the Airline Industry, and wanted to expand into the retail market. The UK was chosen for it’s advanced retail Electronic point of sale environment.
In recent months the importance of developing a solution that supports businesses such as train operating companies, requiring mobile data entry, with a credit/debit card payment capability has become apparent.
Retailers are looking at maximising queue busting, especially at peak trading times as well as solutions for sales on board trains and at-seat catering.
The choice of products offered by Canon have a distinctive range of features driven to improve efficiency and provide more flexibility to companies and end-users.
Hoping to replicate their success in Europe, Canon went in search of a qualified reseller for the UK and Irish markets. To kick start the promotional search Canon showcased the products at two leading industry events in Germany.
ECR Retail Systems were chosen as the UK dealers for the new product due to the thirty five years experience of the Retail market. The hand held terminals compliment the current and future product range and fit in well with ECR’s existing client base, which includes Midland Mainline Ltd.
The Canon KT-1 rugged terminal is a robust, user-friendly, all-in-one-solution featuring a 3.5” touch panel, keyboard and integrated full size high speed thermal printer.
The unit also offers a smart card reader with Chip and Pin accreditation. The unit has achieved the all important PCI Security Approval and EMV level 1 and 2 approval giving it unique capabilities for debit/credit card transactions. This proves to be an ideal solution for those requiring at table service.
This alongside the optional barcode scanner and magnetic stripe reader allows the KT-1 to be used in multiple vending applications. There is also the option to print images and text on the receipt.
The product also offers options for, Wi-Fi, GPRS and Bluetooth. In this way this revolutionary new unit enables companies to literally take the point of sale and the payment method to the customer.
These value added features positively benefit a broad range of businesses whose internal processes involve point of sale, ticketing, queue busting, at seat service and goods delivery.
The ability to communicate in real time with back office systems, is one more reason retailers can benefit from the hand-held option. The unit can also double up for use as a stock taking terminal, accepting goods in or simple price checking.
In addition the KT-1 is suitable for use in pressurised environments such as busy restaurants, hotel bars, or even at seat catering on trains, due to its compact, light-weight yet robust portable design and fast silent thermal printer.
