Grand Central Plan Gathers Pace
16 Nov 2005
Potential East Coast Main Line operator Grand Central Railway is claiming increased support for its proposals. The York-based company, which is looking to run commercial services from Yorkshire and the North East to London, says that 61 MPs have signed an Early Day Motion backing their plans.
In addition Grand Central have a number of local authorities, business organisations, and local media supporting their bid.
Ian Yeowart, Grand Central’s Managing Director, said: “There is more to expanding services on the East Coast Main Line than simply running additional trains on the core route. This is recognised by the overwhelming support we have secured from major centres such as Sunderland, Hartlepool, Bradford and Halifax who have nothing to gain from the recent franchise award.”
