More Seats in the South West

New and refurbished trains offering more seating are to be offered by operator South West Trains.
The government has announced that 17 new Desiro 450 trains are to be provided to enable 6,000 more seats on the busy lines out of London Waterloo, and 650 seats will be provided following an agreement with leasing company Porterbrook to replace nine 170 units with nine 158s.
SWT engineering director Mac Mackintosh said: “This is great news for passengers. The extra seats will provide a step towards dealing with the issue of overcrowding.”
