New Control Centre Keeps Staff on the Rails

16 Sep 2005

Atkins’ rail engineers will find themselves in safe hands whilst they work, with a new control centre at Worcester keeping an eye on their progress.

Engineers working on behalf of Network Rail on routes in Scotland and Southern England will be traced from the new centre by state of the art location technology. Atkins handle more than 30,000 Network Rail structures, including the Forth and Tay bridges.

The control centre was officially opened by the Mayor of Worcester, Cllr Aubrey Tarbuck. It has been in operational use since June having created a dozen jobs, with more expected as new contracts are struck with the transport industry.

Brian Wise, Director of Atkins’ transport division, said: “We’ve made a dramatic start to our operations, landing contracts in the rail, road and airport sectors. Our round the clock operation improves efficiency and enhances safety.”
