New Ticket Office Opens at Sheffield

26 Sep 2005

Sheffield rail station’s new ticket office has been officially opened, the latest stage in the £50m transformation of the facility.

The new office, sited in the station’s former taxi rank, has 12 counters with an electronic queuing system, with one desk for disabled use. Work to revamp Sheffield station has already seen improved platforms and canopies, and an expanded concourse area.

The new ticket office was officially opened by Cllr Jan Wilson, leader of the city council and Vice Chair of South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Authority, and Phil White, Chief Executive of National Express Group which owns station operators Midland Mainline.

Paul Bunting, Midland Mainline’s Managing Director, said: “I am pleased Sheffield station now has a ticket office to be truly proud of. A better station is all about attracting more people onto the rail network. It can really become the number one travel option.”
