People Mover Brings Sunday Service to Stourbridge
13 Feb 2006
The new Parry People Mover service is underway on the Stourbridge branch line.
The environmentally friendly vehicle, which can hold up to 50 people, runs four times an hour on Sundays only and will be in service for a trial period of 12 months. It operates by using a flywheel that stores kinetic brake energy.
It is hoped that if the service is a success, the people mover can be used permanently on the Stourbridge line and on other branch lines across the country.
Cllr. Gary Clarke, chairman of the West Midlands Passenger Transport Authority, said: “We are always keen to look at innovative ways of providing better public transport - and this new technology could prove to be just the answer.”
