The indomitable and highly respected Elsa Redpath has been awarded an MBE in this year’s New Years Honours list.
Elsa works as secretary to Virgin Rail’s Group Chairman, Chris Green. Mrs Redpath began her railway career in 1966 in British Rail’s Hotels Division.
Says Elsa, ’I am delighted, but very surprised to receive the award.’ Elsa worked for the London Midland Region and was eventually promoted to the South Eastern Divisional Manager’s office in 1982. She moved to Southern Region’s Parcels Division in 1984 before becoming secretary to Chris Green, Managing Director of the newly formed Network SouthEast two years later. In 1991 she transferred with Green when he headed up InterCity.
After a spell with BR Telecommunications Elsa joined Virgin Trains where Chris Green became Chief Executive. Mrs Redpath lives in Andover, Kent with husband Kevin.
"I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my rail industry career of almost 40 years but would never have thought it would attract such recognition. I really appreciate the many colleagues with whom I’ve been privileged to work, and their splendid teamwork which makes achievement possible."
Elsa and Kevin are looking forward to attending the award ceremony later this year.
