Rail Industry Encouraged to be More Co-operative at INFRARAIL

16 Sep 2005

Thousands of rail industry professionals gathered in Manchester at INFRARAIL ‘05 to learn more about the latest developments in rail infrastructure technology.

Over 200 exhibitors from 11 countries took part in the show at the G-Mex centre, presenting innovations in track systems, signalling and communications, and maintenance systems.

There were also opportunities to hear about the progress of industry projects and products, plus the chance to exchange ideas and make contacts.

INFRARAIL, now in its sixth year, is the only exhibition in the UK that specifically targets the railway infrastructure sector.

Opening the show, Jeremy Candfield, Director General of the Railway Industry Association, said he hoped clients and suppliers would start to work together more.

“Considerable savings still need to be achieved, which cannot be secured simply through trying to cut suppliers’ margins. As well as a stable environment, it is vital that both clients and suppliers adopt a culture more conducive to a more collaborative and long term approach,” said Mr Candfield.

He added: “We are now beginning to exploit the potential synergy between clients and suppliers. The potential benefits are huge if we can get the framework and culture right.”
