ScotRail Goes Forth
01 Sep 2005
Intrepid train planners at First ScotRail reorganised a quarter of Scotland’s daily train services during the last week in July to keep services running during Network Rail’s closure of the Forth Bridge for maintenance.
Network Rail pushed ahead with a major refurbishment programme on the bridge at the end of July. “This is an extremely complex operation and has involved months of additional work by our planning staff,” says Mary Dickson, First ScotRail’s managing director. Around 450 trains every day will have their working pattern altered and a fleet of 85 coaches has been organised by Fraser Eagle to replace trains between Edinburgh and Fife.
