27 Mar 2009
The first vehicle in the new high-technology fleet of Bombardier Movia metro cars, ordered by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, arrived in India on a transport aircraft.
Indian rail staff were surprised to learn the vehicle was flown directly from Germany in an Antonov aircraft. The first train will shortly commence testing in Delhi. The first 36 vehicles for DMRC will be built in Goerlitz, Germany and the following 388 cars in Savli, India, where Bombardier has established a modern railway manufacturing plant.
