Slow Motion
22 Aug 2005
Halifax MP, Linda Riordan, has drummed up new parliamentary support for the long-awaited Grand Central Railway link.
MPs signed an early day motion in support of the West Yorkshire and North East rail plan. The motion says, “This House supports the proposal by Grand Central Railway to operate several high speed through services daily between Halifax and London; and urges the Office of Rail Regulation to support this initiative.” Grand Central aims to operate its new services using brand new five-coach Class 222 ‘Meridian’ trains, operating in ten-coach formations between London King’s Cross and Doncaster.
Says Ian Yeowart, Managing Director of Grand Central, “I am delighted by the level of support which Linda has been able to attract in support of our Bradford/Halifax service. This degree of support is entirely consistent with the support being shown for our service proposals by other stakeholders in West Yorkshire, as well as in Teesside and Tyne & Wear, and through the highly successful press campaigns being run by the Halifax Courier and the Sunderland Echo.”
