Steam Bequest

Great Central Railway has received a substantial legacy of £143,000 to fund an infrastructure project. GCR says it will probably use the money to restore the canopy at Loughborough Central station and extend the platform northwards.
The money comes from the estate of Don French, a railway enthusiast who lived in Coventry. He died last year leaving his estate to the Main Line Steam Trust. The executor of Mr. French’s will, John Oakley, presented a cheque to the chairman of MLST, Bob Stephens during a special members day at the GCR on the 6th August. Bob said, “We are very grateful that Don French chose to leave a legacy for us. We will use his donation wisely and in an appropriate manner.”
