Wessex Protest

08 Mar 2005

Protests by enraged cyclists on Wessex Trains services have led to a reversal of a rush hour ban on bikes.

Protesters made their point by carrying step ladders, inflated lilos and an ironing board onto trains on the Bath to Bristol run, recently. Wessex imposed the ban in a bid to make extra room for the increased volume of passenger numbers.

CTC Public Transport Campaigner, Dave Holladay, said: ‘We were able to bring together cyclists from Exeter, Plymouth, Truro and Bristol to work through the problem with Wessex Trains. We congratulate the company on its decision to end the bike ban and would like to see Southwest Trains and Thameslink follow suit.’
