Budapest Border Upgrade, Hungary
The Hungarian State Railways Have started to modernise the Budapest - Hegyeshalom - state border railway line in order to be able to offer high quality railway services on the one of the most important line o the network. This line connects the Republic of Hungary to the countries of the European Union (Austria).
The modernisation of the line was not finished after completing the first phase therefore for the seek of ensuring the interoperability of the international corridors and following the relevant directives of the European Union the unified system for train protection has to be installed. It is the European Railway Traffic Management System / European Train Control System (ERTMS/ETCS).
The system will enable to increase the speed up to 160 km/h. The existing train protection system (the Hungarian EVM) is in operation based on the temporary permission issued by the railway authority.
The Hungarian railways require the installation of the ERTMS/ETCS level 1 system. The works have to cover the installation of the trackside part of the system on the Budapest-Kelenföld - Kimle section and the onboard part of the system on the V63 - 100 series of Hungarian locomotives.
The trackside part of the system has to be connected to the all safety related devices along the track, in particular to the Automatic Block System (AT), to the automatic level crossing protection system (AS) and to all the station interlocking regardless of the type of the interlocking system.
Having in mind that the existing safety related equipment have been updated in order to increase the speed on the line (so called high speed train operation) the European system must be interfaced to these modified devices.
The types of the station interlocking to be considered:
- D55 (Domino 55)
- VES (Siemens made)
- ELEKTRA (Alcatel)
- ESTW (installed in Tata station based on SIMIS - C)
The onboard equipment of the system has to be installed on the Hungarian V63 type locomotives updated for speed of 160 km/h. This series have been designed and introduced in the time period from 1991 to 1995. These locomotives are built on the unified principle from machinery point of view.
The installation of the new unified European system has to cover the following:
elaboration of the necessary drawing and submission of these prepare to the relevant institutions (railway administration, authority, etc.) according to the valid law, instructions and rules.
preparation of all the necessary documentation and obtaining all the necessary permission, approvals for installation, for operation (trial, without train regulation purposes, with train regulation purpose etc.) and taking into operation installation of the trackside and onboard part of the system including the necessary modifications (according to the functional and technical requirements) of the existing safety and non safety systems (station, open line, locomotive, braking system etc.), the necessary interfaces, the trackside and onboard devices of the ETCS with the required functions and performance taking into account all the relevant standards, instructions and rules.
The line section is to be equipped is the section: Kimle – Budapest-Kelenföld. The enter the equipped area and exit from the equipped are must be ensured at the odd side of Budapest-Kelenföld station. The system must able to transmit a Movement Authority for FS for the trains leaving the Kelenföld station towards Komárom.
