The IRO, in conjunction with Glasgow Caledonian University, offers a professional development programme in Railway Operational Management. This programme is done through distance learning and consists of a Certificate course, Diploma course and Degree course.

In addition to obtaining a nationally recognised transferable qualification (Certificate, Diploma in Higher Education or BSc), this programme will provide the opportunity for students to develop skills and enhance their career within the railway industry. Undertaking the programme will allow students to benchmark their knowledge and experience with employers, colleagues and customers through a strong networking environment.

The Institution provides a focus for raising standards and enhancing the professional standing of those directly involved in the safe and reliable operation of railways.

What are the Benefits?

  • Qualifications - On completion of the programme the benefits to members will be an industry recognised professional qualification.
  • Status - Successful completion of the programme will allow you to upgrade your membership status with the opportunity to use recognised designatory letters after your name (AIRO, MIRO).
