Business Systems Management Accountant - London SW1
Reporting to the Business Systems Accountant, this is a Head Office role which has supports the UK business by providing strong level assurance and support regarding the integrity of critical business systems.
The role holder is responsible for assisting the Business Systems Accountant in supporting, maintaining and developing business systems for the whole of Colas Rail in the United Kingdom, which comprise the company accounting system and associated business reporting to meet identified reporting requirements.
The role will involve taking ownership of systems related projects in addition to general day-to-day duties.
Supporting the business systems employed by the Group is critical to day-to-day operations. Without proper operating business systems functions in the business key activities such as Procurement, Finance, Payroll and HR would not be able to operate effectively which would adversely impact the Groups delivery of UK operations and also on its operational reputation in the UK market.
In addition the option to enrol for the ACA Qualification may be offered as part of the existing Colas Rail Limited ACA Programme. Should the option to enrol be offered and accepted, it is expected that the individual will complete the ACA qualification, with support from the business, whilst in role.
Key Objectives
• Responsibility for supporting financial systems and procedures for transparent and effective management of the business.
• Verifying that system data collation is carried out promptly and that it is accurate by scrutinizing all financial records/reports and rectifying any errors.
• Reconciling records across functions and systems and co-coordinating the preparation, production and distribution of monthly/quarterly reports/returns for external distribution.
• Supporting the effective and consistent implementation of the organisations business systems regulations, policies and procedures.
• Supporting best in class systems and processes to enable business managers to carry out their duties effectively whilst providing a centre of expertise and support network where this is needed.
• Working with the Business Systems Accountant in ensuring that the system set-up is fit for purpose.
• Working with the Business Systems Accountant in ensuring testing and sign-off on business systems matters as required.
Qualifications and experience required
• A relevant business systems degree qualification from a leading UK university and also relevant practical experience.
• A desire to work in a dedicated systems role working in a fast-paced team environment and a robust and enthusiastic personality and a demonstration of the ability to work to strict deadlines.
• An understanding of reporting requirements demanded by a Group finance function combined with the technical discipline of supporting the Groups accounting system and other support systems.
• High standards and a desire to develop both themselves and their role over time.
• Excellent communication skills and the highest standard of computer literacy which are essential requirements. Knowledge of the Summit 5000 accounting system an advantage, but not essential.
